Jana Watts

Jana is the founder of Davis Dreamers and taught English as a Second Language for 17 years in Davis County Jail. She taught Federal inmates who were waiting to be deported to Mexico and Central America. Jana recognized a pattern of poverty and a lack of education and under-education experienced by her inmates. Jana decided she could make a more meaningful contribution with undocumented populations by starting a nonprofit advocating for undocumented youth. Jana graduated from California State University Hayward and later completed a Master of Arts and Community Leadership degree at Westminster College. She completed her thesis on college access for undocumented students. She uses her passion and her unique perspective to help undocumented students advance in in higher education.

Rosa Garcia

Rosa is a prevention specialist for Davis Behavioral Health. She is working with the Latino and other diverse groups throughout the county to participate in the Communities that Care coalitions to represent and vote on the needs of their youth based on the SHARP data. She has previously worked as a Resource Coordinator and Family Service Worker for the Head Start Program. Because Rosa is from Mexico and her first language is Spanish, she is a great asset making Latino families feel that Davis Dreamers is a safe connection. Rosa also brings a unique perspective due to the fact she was undocumented for most of her student life. Yet she attended UC Berkeley. Rosa is our family outreach specialist and goes into homes of potential Davis Dreamers to educate parents about our program. Rosa has served on the board for 3 years.

Valentina Pastrana

Valentina is Davis Dreamer's first college graduate. She is a great example of someone who navigated higher education and who was also able to apply for graduate school and get accepted into a competitive program. She is currently studying to get her masters degree at the University of Utah in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Her first hand experiences make her a natural choice to work as the liaison between the Davis Dreamers board members and the student leadership team. Valentina hopes to inspire and help other undocumented students in higher education and training. She is passionate about attaining resources for students and serves as the scholarship specialist for Davis Dreamers.
