Testimonials

Davis Dreamers has given me the support, ambition, courage, and strength I have needed as an undocumented first generation college student. My support system has been built of my family and my Davis Dreamers community. Getting a degree has been challenging but having a whole community of dreamers and strong leaders rooting for me has made my educational experience memorable. At Davis Dreamers I can rely on support from my mentors and my fellow dreamers. The mutual care for each other's success brings us together as we build life long friendships that feel like family. I am fortunate to be part of such an amazing organization that continues to give back to the Latin community while inspiring minorities to continue to chase their dreams, regardless of their legal status. I owe all my educational success to Davis Dreamers!

Ever since I became part of the Davis Dreamers program both as a student and as a leader, I have been very fortunate to not only learn from amazing people who add enormous value to my life, but also to have their attention and their care. Board members and mentors offer their time to ensure my academic success in college as an undocumented immigrant. They have not only helped me financially, but also mentored me and guided me to successful habits and to resources that I would have never thought of or know about if it wasn't because of the Davis Dreamers team.

I have been with Davis Dreamers for about 3 years now and over the years I have gained the skills necessary that have led me to mature and grow as an individual, as well as with my team and participants of Davis Dreamers. I have tutored, mentored, and guided various people a long the way and I have seen growth within these individuals and other’s that have been on the same journey. The goal is to make sure everyone has the right tools to accomplish whatever desire and dream a person will have. My passion is to build a better life for family, others, and myself because thriving is much better than surviving.

Davis Dreamers has given me an opportunity to keep going to school and lets me help others in any way I can. I had started school at Weber State and it was really hard to work, go to school and help my family out. I found Davis Dreamers after my second semester at Weber State since then my college experience has been so much better. They helped me in ways I didn't think were possible. Since comingt onto Davis Dreamers I've been able to come along and been given a chance to be part of the leadership team and I've been able to help lots of students with their goals towards school as well as create friendships. This has helped my passion for school be increased because I have surrounded myself with students in Davis Dreamers who want the same thing as me to graduate and to change the coming generation. My experience has been incredible at Davis Dreamers. I wouldn't change any of it. Davis Dreamers helps through school but it also teaches you things you will use outside of school that will help you.

For a very long time I felt isolated and ashamed of a part of my identity. When I learned I was undocumented it was stressed to me that I should never tell anyone of my status and my family's. This caused me to grow up feeling as if there was not a safe space for my family and I. I felt like I could not connect with others on a deeper level because of this secret I had to keep. Later in adolescence I began to realize and recognize not only the emotional distress that comes from being undocumented but
also the oppressions and lack of equality that comes with it too. I lived in fear of not only exposing myself but also fearing that I would not be able to accomplish the goals that I had set. There were many times I wanted to just give up and let this label take over my life. After my first semester of college I felt overwhelmed with the feeling of giving up. I was not doing well in school and was not happy with having to work excessive hours at a low paying job to be able to barely afford school. I was then approached by wonderful women who explained to me what Davis Dreamers was. Davis Dreamers would not only help me with financial support and scholarships to be able to continue with school, but it was also an organization of other undocumented students. Up to that day I had never met another student or individual who was undocumented or at least not that I knew of. At first I was skeptical to expose my situation to the organization and be vulnerable, but once I decided to take a leap of faith my whole life changed. Not only did I have mentors
and people who saw my potential and believed in me, but now I had a safe space where everyone including myself could share their insecurities and concerns of life. I began to trust others and realize that not everyone who is not in my situation is trying to put my family or myself in danger. I began to develop hope that I could accomplish the same goals and that life could change in the future for us undocumented individuals. I developed the confidence and resilience to continue to face the challenges that life brought knowing that I had a support system to back me up. Davis Dreamers is one of the best things that has ever happened to me and I am so blessed to have been able to be part of this organization.
